Founder ’ s Dilemma of Walt Disney 1 Founder Introduction and Background Walter Elias Disney, also known as Walt Disney was born in Chicago Illinois December 5 th 1901, to Elias and Flora Disney. During his younger years he worked in his father’s farm, delivered newspapers, worked for a rail road, and was a Red Cross volunteer during World War I (Warner, 2014) . But he is most commonly known as a cartoonist, filmmaker, amusement park designer, and one of the most innovated business men of the 20 th century (The Imagineers, 2010) . Walt Disney had a natural artistic talent to draw from the time he was a young boy, but he didn’t start as a great business man. The owner of the restaurant told him that he couldn’t come back until he paid the debt. The restaurant owner went to see Walt a few days later, and Founder ’ s Dilemma of Walt Disney 2 found him seatin g on the floor of his apartment eating beans out of a can, he felt bad for Walt and told him to come back and eat at the restaurant whenever he wanted (Warner, 2014) . However, Walt Disney once said that had it not been for all of the kick in the teeth that live had given him; he would not have been successful (The Imagineers, 2010) . In hopes of getting back on his feet, Walt Disney move to California in 1923, and in late 1923 he and his bother Roy pulled funds together and open the Walt Disney Studio, with the help of Roy who was more business savvy than Walt, the studio started with great success. Walt was free to focus on the animation, and Roy made sure the business made money. But the real succe ss and what made Walt Disney famous was the presentation of Mickey Mouse to the world. Every single individual has a set of values that are dear to them and and as individuals we tend to live our lives by these particular standards or principals and we all find things to have different levels of importance. The values i chose include friendship, happiness, dedication, adventure/exploration and curiosity. The first value I focused on was friendship and I find that to be an extremely important part of life. To find certain people that love you for who you are and will always be looking out for you, those are the people that you want to keep in your life forever.
